elcome to the largest VFW state unit with 105,000 members. The Pennsylvania Department consists of patriotic veterans - men and women ranging in age from our newest combat veterans back to World War II heroes - who proudly serve our nation through the VFW. We served in major foreign campaigns, small operations and peacekeeping missions. Many members are on active duty or in Guard and Reserve units.

Joined by our Ladies Auxiliary the VFW serves veterans, their loved ones, military families and communities by "Honoring the Dead by Helping the Living." Our mission of providing assistance, advocacy and camaraderie is more important than ever before. Every year we contribute many hours in community service and many millions of dollars in donations, troop support and VA claims assistance. It's what we do.

If you already paid the high cost of eligibility, COME STAND PROUDLY WITH US in the greatest organization for veterans of foreign wars.

We Have a New Small Games Law!

On Feb. 2, Gov .Corbett signed HB 169 as ACT 2 of 2012. The law takes effect in 30 days.

We will urge Dept. Of Rev to hold training programs, but in the meantime study the bill and get a committee together to get in compliance. Dept. HQ can email you a PDF that highlights changes prompted by HB 169 as provided by State Rep. Sheryl Delozier, but no formal training sessions have been scheduled to date. State HQ will also circulate a “clean” version of the bill when it becomes available.

Thanks to all who joined State HQ in this journey – many posts, auxiliaries and members made our voice heard. Thanks to state lawmakers for helping us out.

HQ will circulate official info about complying with Act 2 when it becomes available.

VFW Continues Strong Community Service

The VFW mission is alive and well in part through the tremendous amount of community service that VFW Posts, Ladies Auxiliaries and members perform. In the past six months alone, the PA VFW is credited with more than $1.5 million in donations and volunteerism for community service, Americanism activities, youth programs and public safety promotion.

Congratulations to the Posts that have supported the VFW’s many outreach and service programs. Your dedication to these programs, added to the significant amount of VFW support for our troops and veteans, shows the public that the mission of our organization has never been more imporrtant.

Contact Congress About Potential Budget Cuts

The national commander of the country’s largest and oldest major combat veterans organization is asking his 2 million members and all their friends and families to urge their elected officials to not break faith with the nation’s military and veterans’ communities.

The VFW national commander’s call to action is the result of three letters sent last Friday by the leadership of the Senate Armed Services Committee and both House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committees to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. The letters support or suggest possible ways to eliminate or reduce quality of life programs and benefits in order to avoid more drastic budget cuts should a deficit reduction deal fail to pass by Thanksgiving Day.
